Affordability Grant
Childcare services App – Goverment of Alberta
A UI/ UX service design project under the Government of Alberta Children Services Department.
A childcare funding app for Albertans was developed using a user-centered design approach with Agile methodology.
Background
The Government of Alberta – Digital Delivery Innovation is developing a user-centered approach to improve their digital public service to the Albertans. The Affordability Grant Project is one of the digital service projects to help Childcare and Daycare get funding from the GoA. From the funding, the facilities can provide a fee reduction to parents, thus it will benefit both parties.
The current Affordability Grant website is outdated, complicated, and not user-friendly, hence it demotivated the External Users (Daycare) to apply for the grant. On top of that, the GoA Children’s Department Internal Staff also struggle to provide adequate service to the applicants since the system is too complex.
The role of a Service Designer in this project is to make sure the process of developing the app is based on a user-centered approach. The Service Designer is also responsible for conducting primary research, co-facilitation sessions, and usability testing with the users and stakeholders. Those information will be translated and provided to the team so a design solution can be created.
